Ready for take off: Urban Policy starts 2024 with a bang!
The year has just begun and yet so much has already happened! In the first few months of 2024, we at Urban Policy have already been all over Germany and Europe, in the news, and in the Bundestag! From Schönefeld to Vienna, our mission to put gender planning at the center of the urban development debate has not only attracted attention, but also sparked significant discussion.
Spreading the word
It’s been a busy year for interviews and speaking engagements already! Our work at Urban Policy has been featured in leading media such as Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung und WDR, as well as on various stages, increasing the reach of gender planning to new and diverse audiences. We are also pleased to announce our partnership MMW Voices Speaker Agency, a match truly made in heaven!
Knowledge transfer
We’ve also got a big and exciting project in the pipeline for this fall. Mary Dellenbaugh-Losse is currently completing her fifth book. This work aims to make basic knowledge of gender-responsive urban development accessible to a wide audience, a testament to our commitment to promoting education and understanding. And we’ve just spoken with the publishing house about having it translated into English – stay tuned for more on this!
Influencing policy
We have also been involved in political discussions on multiple levels – from consulting for the Bundestag & Federal Ministry for Construction, to presenting for the Green Party in Jena, to weighing in on master planning in Schönefeld. We are committed to integrating gender-responsive urban development into the political discourse anywhere we can. And on the European level, our participation in the FEMACT-Cities’ network meeting in Vienna represented a further step to build networks for gender equality across Europe.
Growth and development
We’re also excited to welcome two new team members, Katarina Zlatić und Anna-Zoë Schmidt!
A growing team means a growing portfolio as well. We’re currently in final research and development for a number of concrete and practical tools to help cities implement gender-responsive urban development on site in a variety of spaces. Coming this spring!
Our activities and accomplishments in the first months of 2024 are just the beginning. There is lots in store for this year and beyond. We are thrilled at the positive response we’ve been getting! For us it’s just proof that awareness and sympathy for a user-based approach to cities that takes a more diverse view is growing. We are so excited to be part of this process.
