[Ten Minute Talks] Gender& Fear in Public Space

My Ten Minute Talk series continues this month with not one but two short videos in the Gender& series, which explores topics such as mobility, fear spaces, park design and much more from the perspective of gender equality. As with the first video in the series, these talks are in German with English subtitles.

In the first video, I go into the background of fear spaces. What are they and why aren’t they necessarily crime hot spots? What structural, personal and situational characteristics contribute to fear in public space? And what can planners do to fight against it?

In the second video, I am out and about in Berlin. Watch me explore and explain three spaces, what is problematic (or positive) about them and also what we might do about the existing issues, if anything.

Enjoy!
